When I bring something new in, something of equal weight has to go out

Early note

Early guess. This note is early and still needs a worked example.

When something new comes into my life, I try to work out what goes out to make room, and the swap should be about equal in weight. It seems to work for stuff, for time, and for attention.

Money too

Spending is the clearest case: a new cost should displace an old one rather than pile on top. The rule keeps my life from quietly filling up.

What I’m unsure about

I don’t have a worked example written down yet. I’m also unsure how to judge “equivalent” when the two things aren’t the same kind, such as trading an hour for a purchase.
